Goodbye Dear Old Friend
There is no friend like a dog.
Today we said goodbye to Bubby who was our loyal companion for over 10 years. Selene was there the day he was born and we were both with him when he breathed his last after a sudden decline due to acute kidney failure, which finally left him unable to get up off the floor. We went on almost daily walks together. He loved to swim in the lake, chase tadpoles, go for rides in the truck, bark at delivery trucks, and follow his favorite person, Selene, from room to room—wherever she went. She couldn’t sit down to read or knit without him pushing his head onto her lap to be petted. Say a prayer for her (and for me).
“The creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the glorious freedom of the children of God. We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time.” (Romans 8:19-22)
Tonight we groan along with creation, longing for that day of liberation from decay and death.
