New Series: “And So It Begins…”

clay

The pastors and leaders of Grace Place are in a prayerful process of seeking God’s heart for our church.  As a part of this process, I am studying once again the birth of the New Testament church and the characteristics of the new community when it was alive, healthy, and Spirit-filled–rocking the world for Christ.  I’m really excited about a new message series we are beginning as we look closely at the early chapters of Acts and seek to become more of an Acts-type church–not just playing church–but on an epic kingdom adventure!

One Cool Idea for Helping the Poor!

clay

Recently I learned about an organization called Kiva.  It exists to help empower the working poor who are entrepreneurs with good ideas to start or improve businesses, but can’t acquire the loans they need to get started due to their poverty and the banking situations in developing countries.  We Americans are way blessed compared to most the world.  Kiva helps connect us with worthy people in order to lend them money to better their situation. Through the course of a loan (usually 6-12 months), you can receive email journal updates and track repayments.  You can see the pictures of the people you are helping, learn their story, and they can see your picture (if they have access to a computer).  You can loan as low as $25.  Selene and I investigated this and decided to loan funds to six different individuals in four countries.  We are excited to play a part in their lives and look forward to hearing about their success!  Check it out: www.kiva.org
