We think alike John! That's inspiring. I pray that Grace Place will be that kind of church too--full of cross-eyed (Christ-focused) followers!

Well stated! I have had the experience of being in a number of different churches through the years, partly because of moving and partly because of searching. What I have experienced is that a lot of "charismatic" churches lack theological depth and a lot of churches with a rich history of solid theological teaching lack spiritual live. We always have tendency to swing to the edges. Somehow Christ is in the middle, and we struggle to take that path. The path to the heart is through the mind. It is not through the senses and emotions. I read an essay that talked about the sovereignty of God and the Holy Spirit. It was refreshing. It seemed that Jonathan Edwards saw the effects of a Holy Spirit movement during his times of preaching. What was interesting was that he was not a "charimatic" speaker. The point being that the Spirit was present between the preacher and the audience. The results were not controllable! This comforted me as I realized that the Spirit is the one who convicts and moves as God wills regardless our feeble attempts to generate the right environment. I had the privilege of attending one of the fastest growing churches in the midwest. What was their secret? It could not be attributed to their worship environment or their christian education program. I had seen the same thing in other churches and the effects couldn't match what was going on in this church.
God moves people when the gospel is presented clearly and everything the church does points to the person of Jesus. This was the overriding message of that church. Jesus is the main thing, everything else is just details. What was amazing was this church was Lutheran! Old mainline! It had grown from 20 members to 7000 members in 12 years!
Why? Because Jesus was the main message clearly.

Clay,

Very intresting, I'm new at this whole blog thing also
This will be wonderful getting to know Gods heart in you.

He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears,

16:13-15

IS THIS A CALL TO PRAYER/PRAISE/WORSHIP OR WHAT!!!

But worship is not presented as Holy Spirit focused, for his role is to point us to Jesus.

I AGREE WORSHIP SHOULD BE HOLY SPIRIT LEAD!!!
